College Application Made Simple for Parents and Students #college #collegeapplication #collegeprep
- College Application Do’s & Don’ts:
If you’re starting your college applications this fall, here are the most common mistakes I see — and how to avoid them.
- One of the biggest mistakes I see? Parents filling out the whole application for their student.
- Now — parents, I get it. You want to help. But students need to take ownership of this process, especially the first two sections of the application.
- The first part is simple: name, address, contact info. Students should be able to handle that.
- The second part is critical — extracurriculars, leadership, and community service. This section should be written clearly and concisely. Keep it clean and to the point.
- The third section is where you, the parent, come in — this is the household and income section. Don’t leave this blank. Even if you’re not submitting the FAFSA, most schools still want this context.
- And here’s another missed opportunity: scholarship sections. Some applications include questions that help match you to potential scholarships. If you skip it, you could be skipping free money.
- In some cases, a short additional essay is required to qualify. If it’s a significant scholarship, it’s usually worth the time to fill it out.
It’s easy to overthink or skip important parts of the application, but with the right support, it doesn’t have to be stressful. Reach out and let’s go through it, step by step, together. Let college help squad be apart of your process.
