Junior Year College Checklist Before Senior Year Starts #collegeadvice #collegeapps #senioryear

If your student is finishing junior year, this is a great time to start getting ready for senior yea r and the college application process.

One of the first things students should do is check in with their high school counselor and make sure they understand what they need for applications, transcripts, and senior year planning.

Students should also work on their brag sheet and resume now, while everything is still fresh. That way, when it is time to fill out applications or ask for letters of recommendation, they already have their activities, leadership, service, and accomplishments written down.

This is also the time to think about which teachers they want to ask for letters of recommendation. If your student already knows who they want to ask, those conversations should happen before everyone leaves for summer break.

Families should also think ahead about summer plans. Community service is a question on many college applications, so students should know what they are doing this summer and whether they are building in service, leadership, work, or meaningful involvement.

The goal is to get these conversations done before fall, so your student is not scrambling once senior year starts.
