Essay Support in Our College Planning Process

The essay component is a crucial part of our college planning services. At College Help Squad, we work closely with students to develop and refine their essays, ensuring they effectively convey their unique stories and strengths. Here’s how our essay process works:

  • Common Application Essay:
We typically help students craft five essays, starting with the Common App essay, which is required by many private and out-of-state schools. This essay has a 650-word limit, and we aim to stay as close to that limit as possible to maximize the impact. Whether it's 648 or 630 words, we ensure that every word counts.
  • UC Personal Insight Questions:
For students applying to University of California schools, we assist with the Personal Insight Questions. Students choose four out of eight prompts to respond to, with each response being around 300 words. These essays provide a chance to highlight different aspects of the student’s personality and experiences.
  • Supplemental Essays:
Many private colleges and universities, including those in Texas, require additional or supplemental essays. These can range from 150 to 500 words, depending on the school. For example, the University of Washington requires a Common App essay as well as additional application questions. We help students navigate these varying requirements to ensure each essay is tailored to the specific school.
  • Optional Essays:
Some applications include optional essays that address special circumstances, such as financial challenges, gaps in education, or changes in academic performance. We suggest students reach out to us to discuss whether it’s appropriate to complete these essays, especially if they have an IEP or 504 plan. It’s essential to verify that the college offers support for IEPs and 504s before addressing these topics in your application.

Completing these essays is critical to the application process. Our team is here to ensure that every essay is thoughtfully written and strategically crafted to enhance the student’s application. We guide students through each step, helping them present their best selves to prospective colleges.
