Learning Disabilities
Our Scope of Services
The following points offer a summary of College Help Squad’s approach and range of services when counseling a student with learning disabilities:
- Meet with the student and parents to review our services, explaining the college application process and requirements for admission consideration.
- Explain the application process for specific academic program consideration: the requirements, testing, documentation, verification of challenge, and supplementary materials needed for submission and academic service review.
- Review the current assistance received through high school, outside services, or special education services through a 504 plan, IEP plan, private school accommodation plan, or academic service.
- Plan for and review the most recent academic testing.
- Discuss the student’s potential majors or areas of interest and review current colleges and universities that offer academic services.
- Break down the student’s college list and review each choice for admission requirements, SAT/ACT requirements, and location.
- Review each college for the areas of study they offer, whether SAT or ACT scores are required and the score range, applying for academic services for SAT or ACT exams, and academic service requirements for program consideration. Narrow the list to 10 total colleges.
- Plan out the process for creating a resume and LinkedIn account once a completed email is sent to admissions offices and academic service programs to show interest.
- Assist in planning college visits and tours, admissions interviews, and meetings with service/academic service programs.
- Review application deadlines for admission to colleges and universities and additional information required to apply for academic service programs.
- Organize a plan for following up with each college and university admissions office and academic service program toward consideration of acceptance.
- Review who will write the recommendations required for the admission application and the academic service program (if needed).
- Maintain a timeline for reviewing the admission and academic service portals for acceptances when the student has completed their college applications.
- Once the student gains acceptance to a college, review each acceptance from the Office of Admissions into major and acceptance from academic services/disability services/program, what services will be provided for the admissions candidate, next steps within admissions and academic service program need to be completed for deposit.
- If required, schedule an appointment with the academic service programs to complete the intake for service confirmation; provide up-to-date IEP, 504 plan, or private accommodation for most current academic services; and recommend which academic services are needed or encouraged for the college transition.
- Assist in reviewing the best fit for the student based on major, location, internships, clubs/activities, and academic service programs, which not only meet the educational needs of the candidate but provide consistent guidance as well as ongoing academic assistance when needed.
