If you’re applying to college this year, these are the most important deadlines to keep track of in October.

October is one of the busiest months in the college application process.
Several major applications and financial aid portals are now open, and others are closing soon. Staying on top of these dates is key.

Let’s start with the University of California system.
You can now submit your UC application. The portal is open, and students are able to officially send in their completed applications.
Make sure your Personal Insight Questions are finished, your activities list is complete, and everything has been reviewed before clicking submit.

The Cal State application is also now open. This is one of the more straightforward applications. It asks for your personal information, your coursework, and your GPA.
There are no essays or letters of recommendation required, but it is still important to enter everything accurately and review your work before submitting.

The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, opened on September 25 and is ready to go.
This form helps determine how much aid your student may qualify for. Submitting early can increase your chances of receiving priority funding from some colleges.

The CSS Profile opens on October 1. This form is required by many private colleges and asks for more detailed financial information than the FAFSA.
It includes questions about home equity, business income, and other assets. If your student is applying to a college that requires the CSS Profile, it is important to start early and be thorough.

Many Early Decision, Early Action, and Restrictive Early Action deadlines fall on November 1.
That means everything should be submitted before the end of October, including the application itself, letters of recommendation, transcripts, test scores, and final versions of essays.
