What Families Should Expect in March for College Admissions #collegeadvice #collegeadmissions
Here is everything happening in March during the college application process.
First, college acceptances are released this month. Decisions may come out all at once or in waves, depending on the school. Make sure you are checking your college portals regularly, not just your email.
When an acceptance arrives, you may also see a merit award included in that initial offer. Merit awards are often listed right away, but that does not mean your full financial aid package is complete.
Full financial aid packages typically take about 30 days after acceptances are released. That package includes grants, loans, and any additional aid. So if you do not see the full breakdown yet, hang tight. That part takes longer.
March is also when waitlists begin. If your student is waitlisted, that is not a no. You may need to accept a spot on the waitlist and send a letter of continued interest if the college allows it. At the same time, you should plan to move forward with another acceptance in case the waitlist does not convert.
If you already know which school you plan to attend, you can submit your non refundable deposit to secure your spot. Deposits hold your place in the incoming class and allow you to move forward with housing and registration.
March is a decision month, but not everything happens at once. Some pieces move quickly, others take time.
