What Key Steps Should You Take Before the End of August 2025? #collegeapplication #college
What are the most important college application dates in August that every parent and student needs to keep in mind?
First, the Common Application officially opened on August 1.
This platform is used by more than a thousand colleges, including many private and out-of-state public schools.
If a student created an account before August 1, some information may have rolled over — but essays and college-specific questions need to be re-entered and double-checked.
Now is the time to review each school on your list. Look closely at their supplemental essays.
Some prompts are already available, but others may still be marked “TBD” and won’t release until early September.
Check each college’s section inside the Common App carefully so you don’t miss anything.
Second, here in California, the UC application portal is now open for students to begin working on.
While you can’t officially submit until November 1, this is the time to start your Personal Insight Questions, organize your activities list, and begin reviewing your academic information.
Next, Ivy League schools and most other highly selective colleges are live now too.
Their applications and supplemental essays are either open or will be rolling out throughout August.
It’s important to stay on top of these — because schools like Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia often require more than one essay.
Third, school is starting again this month.
That means students will be balancing new classes, activities, and application prep — all at once. August is the time to set up a schedule and start building healthy habits.
And finally, our College Help Squad webinar series is back this month.
We’ll be walking parents and students through the entire journey — from application platforms and deadlines to writing essays and understanding financial aid.
August is when the college process really begins.
