What Students Should Do in Summer for College Admissions #collegeadvice #collegeapps #senioryear

If your student wants to build stronger college applications, summer is a great time to gain experience, complete community service, and gather material for their essays.

Students should use the summer to build real experiences they can later talk about in their applications.

If your student already has something they care about, that is a great place to start. For example, if they play a sport, they could volunteer as a coach, referee, umpire, or scorekeeper for younger kids in that same sport. That gives them a way to stay involved in something they already know and care about while also building community service.

It can also help with leadership. If a student is guiding younger kids, helping them improve, or showing up in a dependable role, that gives them something real to talk about when colleges ask about leadership, responsibility, and involvement.

Summer is also a good time to slow down a little and reflect. Even something as simple as writing in a journal can help later when it is time to work on college essays, because students already have thoughts, stories, and experiences to pull from.

The goal is for students to finish the summer with something meaningful they actually did, not just a list of activities that do not connect to who they are.
