Why Does Volunteer Work Matter for College Applications? #collegeapplication #collegeadmissions

How can students use community service to stand out on college applications and make a real impact?

Over the years, I’ve realized something important: students need to show colleges who they are outside of the classroom. And that means getting involved in something bigger than themselves.

I always say — if you’re going to talk the talk, you have to walk the walk.
That’s why I’ve been involved in community work for many years, and why I’m proud to serve as the current president of the Burbank Noon Rotary Club.

Rotary is all about service above self, and it offers incredible opportunities for students of all ages.
In high school, you can join a program called Interact — it’s designed specifically for teens who want to give back, build leadership skills, and connect with their local community.

If your school doesn’t have an Interact Club, don’t worry. Just reach out to your local Rotary chapter and ask how you can get involved. There are always projects happening, and they love having student volunteers.

If you’re already in college, there’s something for you, too. Rotaract Clubs are available on many college campuses, where students continue service projects and build leadership through fellowship and collaboration.

Right now, I’m working on a few service projects that I absolutely love — including the Red Sand Project, Kids’ Community Dental Clinic, Home Again LA, and the Boys and Girls Club.

There’s so much good to be done — and colleges notice when students take initiative and commit to meaningful causes.

So if you’re looking for a passion project, a place to volunteer, or even just a way to get started, reach out. I’d be happy to connect you to something that matters.

College applications aren’t just about academics — they’re about impact. And sometimes, the best way to stand out is by showing up for others.
